Summary:This abstract analyzes the spatial variability and distribution of radon-222 concentrations in the basement of Tomsk Technical University (TPU). Radon is a natural occuring gas and second leading causes of lung cancer after smoking. Its accumulation in residential buildings contributes significantly to health risks. Measurements were conducted in four different locations of basment in basement 1 and basement 2 using the Alfarad Plus radon monitoring system. The results showed significant spatial variability in radon distribution: the highest values (up to 1162 Bq/m3) in excess of the international reference value which is 300 Bq/m3. Furthermore, available data suggest that environmental and occupational conditions are risk factors for radon exposure. The findings highlight the need for radon mitigation measures such as using sub-lab depressurization, mechanical ventillation to manage radon hazards particulary in enclosed, poorly ventilated underground spaces
