Summary:
This article effects a theoretical shift in the study of the image of technological leadership, moving its analysis from the plane of static representation to a dynamic paradigm of processuality and event-ness. The author argues that under the conditions of “liquid modernity” (Z. Bauman), the image of leadership ceases to be a fixed sign and transforms into a complex communicative event, continuously reproduced within public discourse. The methodological framework comprises a synthesis of A.N. Whitehead’s process philosophy and contemporary communication theories. Departing from classical approaches (the representative and constitutive paradigms of the image), the author adopts the “evental turn,” examining the image through the prism of its becoming. A key dichotomy is introduced and delineated: the “communication of events” (an ontological process of the mutual influence of actual entities, following Whitehead) and the “communicative event” (a phenomenological act of exchanging meanings). It is argued that the image of technological leadership is constituted precisely within the space of their intersection. The main thesis of the article posits that contemporary technological leadership functions as a performative narrative. It establishes itself and becomes a social fact not through the declaration of attributes but through a chain of public, mediatized performance-events (e.g., SpaceX launches or Apple keynotes), which are experienced by the audience as a co-experience (co-being). These events, following Whitehead’s logic, are acts of “concrescence,” synthesizing past experience, cultural codes, and future expectations into a new nodal point of meaning. As a case study, the promotion of the Apple Vision Pro is analyzed in detail as a complex “organism-event” generating a chain of new communicative acts. Thus, the image of technological leadership is not a reflection of a pre-existing reality but an active, processual instrument for its construction. It emerges and is legitimized within the process of the “communication of events,” where the event itself (a breakthrough, a presentation) and its communication are inseparable. Leadership is revealed as a dynamic, performative process rooted in the very fabric of communicative reality, constantly assembling and reassembling social consensus around itself. The authors declare no conflicts of interests
