| Summary: | Title screen This study presents a fully green and synergistic corrosion inhibitor engineered by combining chemically synthesized zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles with sea buckthorn oil (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) (SBO). The hybrid ZnO/SBO system is designed to overcome the limitations of standalone plant-derived inhibitors, such as poor aqueous solubility and film durability, by leveraging the complementary properties of both components. We hypothesize that ZnO nanoparticles act not as inert fillers but as active nano-platforms that facilitate the chemisorption, self-assembly, and cross-linking of SBO's diverse bioactive constituents, leading to the formation of a compact, multilayered protective film. Inhibition performance was rigorously evaluated for low/high-carbon steels and cast iron in acidic media using an integrated suite of electrochemical, gravimetric, spectroscopic, and morphological analyses. The ZnO/SBO composite demonstrated superior, synergistic efficacy, achieving inhibition efficiencies up to 98.5% (potentiodynamic polarization) and 77.5% (weight loss). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed a substantial increase in charge-transfer resistance and a decrease in double-layer capacitance, indicative of a highly resistant interfacial film. Optical microscopy confirmed the composite's ability to form a durable barrier that mitigates both uniform and micro-galvanic corrosion, the latter being particularly challenging for heterogeneous cast iron. This work merges the renewable wisdom of botanical chemistry with nanomaterial engineering, providing a sustainable, high-performance solution for metal protection that aligns with the core principles of green chemistry and sustainable materials engineering Текстовый файл AM_Agreement |
