Summary:Title screen
In this work, transparent magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4) ceramics with the introduction of magnesium fluoride (MgF2) nanopowder in a concentration of 0–1.0 wt %, fabricated by the Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) method were studied. The influence of MgF2 additive concentrations on the shrinkage dynamics during SPS process, microstructure, optical and mechanical properties of MgAl2O4 ceramics was investigated. It was found that the optimal concentration of MgF2 additive is 0.1 wt%., which allows obtaining MgAl2O4 ceramics with an acceptable combination of the physical properties (Tλ = 600 = 74.6 %, Tλ = 4500 = 79.3 %, Hv =16.4 ± 0.4 GPa, К1s = 3.4 ± 0.05 MPa m1/2)
