Summary:The possibility of using automata-based programming as an alternative to the use of IEC-61131-3:2013 standard languages is demonstrated. The software for creating algorithms based on transition graphs (automata models) is developed and demonstrated. It is established that in some cases, the approach of automata programming can be used to simplify the programming process and coordinate the technical specifications between the technologist and the programmer. Based on the analysis of the shortcomings of the IEC-61131-3:2013 standard programming languages, a conclusion is made about the need to apply a different approach (in the form of automata-based programming) when developing programs for automated control systems of technological processes
