We analyze the dependence of the emitted energy, generated when a twisted electron falls onto a metal mirror, on the value of the orbital angular momentum (OAM) and the width of the wave packet. We have obtained compact expressions that describe, to leading order, the electron’s energy losses in the reaction plane and outside it. We compare the resulting approximate formulas with the outcome of numerical modeling that takes into account the previously neglected terms. Our results indicate that, without considering quantum recoil, the appearance of radiation outside the plane is associated with a decrease in the emitted energy within the reaction plane. However, the total energy losses turn out to be the same as those from a point-like particle. When quantum recoil is taken into account, however, the energy losses depend significantly on the OAM and the width of the wave packet
