Summary:A novel application of active thermal nondestructive testing (TNDT) for the rapid detection of packaging defects in containers used for dietary supplements is described. The combination of convective and low-power optical heating enabled the detection of the following defects: delaminations (air bubbles) and loose shrinkage of the thermal film, crumpling, delaminations and contamination of the label, container contamination and cross-threaded cap sealing. It has been established that specific defect types produce characteristic thermal anomalies, allowing for the classification of detected thermal indications according to defect type. The TNDT productivity may reach 3–4 containers per second
