The paper presents the experimental results on the ignition and combustion characteristics of composite fuels based on coal and plant-derived additives. Sawdust, tall oil, and waste cooking oil were used as components. The oxidizing environment temperature in the combustion chamber varied in the range of 700–1000 °C. The ignition delay and combustion times of fuels, the composition of flue gases (CO2, CO, NO, and SO2 concentrations), as well as the amount of ash and soot were determined. The decrease in NO and SO2 emissions by 23–62 % and 1.7–3.8 times, respectively, for slurry fuels relative to coal combustion has been established. The best environmental performance was demonstrated by a coal-water slurry with the addition of sawdust. The minimum ignition delay time was registered for the slurry with a tall oil additive. The ignition delay time was reduced by up to 52 % compared to coal when using distilled tall oil as an additive. Based on experimental data, a multicriterial analysis of composite fuel efficiency was performed. The integral efficiency indicator of fuel mixtures with the plant-derived additives is higher by up to 40 % relative to pulverized coal
