Undoped and CeO2-doped transparent magnesium aluminate spinel ceramics were successfully fabricated by the Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) method. The effect of the CeO2 with different dispersions on the phase evolution, microstructure, as well as the optical and mechanical properties was thoroughly investigated. Discrete-element modeling of MgAl2O4 spinel powder mixtures with cerium oxide of various dispersions and their imitation consolidation were conducted. It was found that the sintering of MgAl2O4 and CeO2 nanopowders mixture occurs with the lowest energy cost. The apparent activation energy of intensive sintering is 77 kJ/mol, the relative shrinkage is 64.7 %. The optimal CeO2 concentrations were determined, that guarantees the possibility of spinel ceramics consolidation with in-line transmittance value of at least 5 %. It has been explored that the introduction of CeO2 nanopowder into MgAl2O4 ceramics not only does not have a negative effect on its optical properties, but also leads to an increase in its mechanical properties
