For high-quality operation of modern accelerator technology, a necessary condition is to ensure the specified characteristics of the extracted beam. The position of the particle beam in space and its transverse intensity distribution are determined using wire scanning method. To implement this method, when the detecting device moves linearly in a plane perpendicular to the beam propagation axis, the authors of the work propose to study ionization chamber as a detector. Ionization chambers have significant advantages, such as high radiation resistance, sensitivity to radiation with low currents, ease of use and the ability to measure data in real time. As a result, an ionization chamber was developed and tested. The profilometer prototype was tested on the Microtron MT-25 installation at an electron energy of 7 MeV. As a result of experimental studies on an electron beam, it was shown that the ionization chamber makes it possible to determine the position of the beam and measure its size with high resolution (no worse than 1 mm), which means that such a device is applicable as a profilometer detector
