The influence of the liquid layer height on the velocity field and evaporation during local heating

The Particle Image Velocity method was used to investigate the velocity fields when the liquid layer height changed from 0.6 to 5.1 mm. The loss of stability of the velocity field during local heating is realized at the Bond number (Bo) 0.01–0.02, which is 10–20 times lower than the critical value of Bo(cr) compared to heat exchange at a uniform wall temperature. The Marangoni flow depends both on the height and the layer diameter. The critical height of the layer 2–2.5 mm leads to a sharp change in the flow pattern.
