The article presents the results of experimental studies of co-ignition processes of woody biomass particles under high-temperature heating conditions. The authors have analyzed the influence of the distance between fuel particles on the characteristics and conditions of their ignition. It has been shown that the values of the distance between fuel particles have a significant effect on the characteristics and conditions of ignition under conditions of relatively low ambient temperatures (Tg = 873 K), it was also found that at high ambient temperatures, the particle distance does not significantly affect the characteristics and conditions of ignition. The authors have found that at ambient temperatures Tg = 873 K, an increase in distance leads to a decrease in the ignition delay time of biomass particles, ignition delay time particles becomes almost equal ignition delay time single particle of woody biomass. Based on the results of calculating the radiation heat fluxes falling on the surface of a biomass particle, it was found that under conditions of joint ignition of a group of wood particles (even consisting of only two), each of them obscures the neighboring one. The latter accordingly leads to a significant de-intensification of the heating process and, as a consequence, an increase in the ignition delay time.
