In this paper, we present the experimental results of studying the grazing interaction of microfocus bremsstrahlung radiation with the edge surfaces of plastic and steel plates. In the experiments, we use hard bremsstrahlung radiation generated for the case of grazing incidence of an 18-MeV internal electron beam of a B-18 betatron onto the surface of a thin tantalum foil with a thickness of 13 μm and a length of 2.5 mm along the electron beam. The target is set along the electron-beam direction using an internal goniometer. Therefore, the linear microfocus of radiation emitted along the Ta target is 13 μm wide. Using the generated radiation, enlarged images of plastic plates with a thickness of 4 and 10 mm, steel plates with a thickness of 10, 5, and 0.9 mm, and lead foils with a thickness of 25 µm are obtained. High-quality images of the objects are shown to be realized due to the small horizontal size of the radiation source when the edge surfaces of the plates are oriented at grazing angles to the axis of the radiation cone. The possible involvement of edge-phase contrast in image formation, which is determined by radiation refraction on the lateral faces of the plates, is discussed. The results are compared with the results on the edge contrast obtained using microfocus bremsstrahlung from an 8-μm-thick Si target oriented along the electron beam of the B-18 betatron.
