| Summary: | Title screen Of all the traditional energy sources (coal, natural gas, fuel oil, and petroleum), coal has the greatest environmental impact. Coal combustion at thermal power plants produces copious atmospheric emissions, as well as ash and slag. The discovery of new fuels is a high priority at present. One possibility is the use of industrial wastes. Composite liquid fuels could permit the use of coal-mining, oil-processing, and other wastes, as well as biomass, in the energy cycle. However, too little is known about the ash produced in the combustion of such fuels. In the present work, the ash residue from the combustion of coal suspensions and water-based slurry fuel is analyzed. The ash mass from the combustion of a fixed mass of fuel is calculated, as well as the ash mass produced in the generation of a fixed quantity of energy.
