| Summary: | Title screen The structure and properties of ceramics based on tetragonal zirconia with addition of the low-modulus hexagonal boron nitride inclusions were studied. With a low content of h-BN inclusions (Y-TZP)-(h-BN) ceramics fracture toughness K1C increasing was observed. The greatest fracture toughness K1C=12 ± 0.53 MPa m1/2 was demonstrated by Y-TZP ceramics with 0.5 mass % of h-BN. Increasing of the fracture toughness with the introduction of lowmodulus h-BN inclusions into the ceramic matrix was due to the action of two dissipative mechanisms-zirconium oxide martensitic transformation and the cracks inhibition at relatively weak interphase boundaries of the matrix and lowmodulus h-BN inclusions. As the amount of h-BN increased, the contribution of martensitic transformation on fracture toughness decreased, which is associated with a decreasing of zirconium oxide tetragonal phase grain size and its transition to a stable state.
