Metal matrix composite powders of titanium, carbon black with 50 and 60 vol. % of HSS and high chromium сast iron HCCI metal binders were synthesized by self-propagating high temperature synthesis in wave combustion mode. It is shown, that the preliminary MA makes possible to initiate SHS in wave combustion mode in reaction mixtures with a high metal binder content. However, it is necessary to take into account the behavior of the binder powders during MA process.
