The structure and properties of ZrO[2-3] mol. % Y2O3 powders synthesized by the chemical precipitation method using ultrasonic treatment, subjected to the long-time stored under normal conditions for 2´108 s (7 years), are investigated. It is shown that the morphology of the powder particles after long-time keeping in normal conditions has changed relative to the initial one. The particle size of the powder after keeping in the case of conventional synthesis is increased by 1.5 times, in the case of using ultrasonic treatment during the synthesis-decreases by 18 times. It is found that the change in the specific surface area after keeping process occurs only in the powder synthesized with ultrasonic treatment in the initial powders without annealing. Subsequent anneals completely restore the state of the aged powder to its original state. The phase composition of the powders in the initial state is represented by the tetragonal modification of ZrO[2], whereas the phase composition of the keeped ZrO[2]-Y[2]O[3] powders has the tetragonal and cubic phases, and amount of cubic phase is approximately 5-20%, depending on the annealing temperature. Thus, a change in the morphology and particle size of the powder after keeping leads to additional stabilization of zirconium.
