Summary:	Title screen The mass differences of the flavor octet and decuplet ground-state baryons are studied inthe perturbative chiral quark model. We present a way to understand the nontrivial spinandflavor-dependent mass differences, whereby both pseudoscalar mesons and gluonsplay a significant role.
