Summary:Title screen
An extracurricular activity is a significant part of university education aimed at students' motivation and desire to stock their minds with knowledge and experience. Extracurricular activities are not normally awarded credits or grades, but they contribute to the academic syllabus, enrich university years and promote personal growth. In this paper the authors analyze the potential opportunities of extracurricular reading to develop students' skills in a foreign language. The results revealed that extracurricular reading in a foreign language furthers educational skills, favors foreign language competence and prepares students for continued self-learning after university graduation. The authors offer a set of exercises that can be used in the organization of extracurricular reading activities.
