An small-scale soft X-ray radiograph was developed at the Institute of High Current Electronics. The radiograph consists of a base unit, a control system, a vacuum system, an air-drying system, and diagnostic equipment. The base unit of diameter 560 mm and height 410 mm is placed on a 1100 mm long and 700 mm wide support. The base unit includes a 1000-nF fast capacitor bank and a vacuum chamber with a load unit. The bank charge voltage is 30-50 kV. An X-pinch or a metal plasma jet can be used as a load. With the X-pinch made of four 25-pm molybdenum wires, the radiograph source size is 4 ?m and it produces a radiation pulse of duration 2 ns in the spectral range 3-4 keV. A radiation source 15 ?m in size capable of producing an X-ray pulse of duration 2-3 ns in the spectral range over 1,5 keV was realized using a metal plasma jet generated by an auxiliary vacuum arc discharge.
