Summary:Title screen
Publishing in English has become a strict requirement for academics and researchers at Russian leading universities since this is regarded as a major means to communicate their research to the international scientific community worldwide. However, it is typically time and effort consuming for non-native speakers to achieve proficiency in academic writing, which means being able to think and write about complex scientific ideas in English from the start. For this reason, most researchers choose first to prepare a draft in Russian and then to translate it into English. In the present article, we report on how TPU (National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University) helps its academics and researchers develop their translation competence. In particular, we make reference to the advanced training courses – “Developing Professional Didactic Competence by means of the English Language” and “Writing for Publication” – and demonstrate how participants obtain the necessary skills via learning.
