| Summary: | Title screen The endothermic substance 5,6 (3', 4'-furazano)-1,2,3,4-tetrazine-1,3-dioxide (C2N6O3, FTDO) has enthalpy of formation exceeding 1000 cal/g. This makes it perspective and promising high-energy material for use in development of solid propellants and optically initiated detonators. One of the most important parameters of energetic materials performance is the velocity of explosive decomposition (detonation) of substance. This parameter needs to be known for designing actuation mechanisms on their basis and also for creation of experimentally substantiated mechanisms of energetic materials initiation. In the case of highly energetic chemical compounds and explosives the measurement problem of explosive decomposition represents a difficult technical task which takes elaboration of specific installations and approaches to get reliable experimental information. Because of high impact and friction sensitivity of such materials some special precautions have to be taken into account when handling and preparing the samples for testing.
