Summary:Title screen
A qualitative estimate of the extinction of optical radiation transmitted through large crystals of different shapes is given. Conditions of occurrence of the spectral behavior of the extinction coefficient in the visible and near-IR wavelength ranges are determined for large crystals. It is shown that this salient feature is mainly caused by radiation passed through predominantly oriented plate crystals. It is demonstrated that the polarization characteristics of the extinction can reach several tens of percent in the near-IR wavelength range.
