The author's view to the problem of intercultural competence development consists in the integration of cognitive styles approach to teaching foreign language communication. The paper proves that cognitive style, defined as individual's consistent approach to organizing and processing information, is involved in the formation of the picture of the world. The analysis of cognitive styles performance from the position of intercultural communication reveals that one of the most essential conditions for effective intercultural communication is the cognitive readiness for intercultural communication that comprises cognitive and communicative abilities to participate in the intercultural dialogue.
