According to concepts, developing since the beginning of the 1980s, the destruction of solids is a final stage of micro-, meso- and macrostructures evolution. The research of destruction of a cup chisel made of hard alloy T14K8 at the exploration process was carried out with regard for the development of meso- and macrostaged deformation both on the surface and in the depth of material. It was found out by the optical metallography that on the working edge of the chisel appear thin (5-10 mm) periodical stripes of the higher wear. On the macrobreaks of specimens destroyed during a working period, stripes of the localized deformation with a typical size 0.3-1 mm were observed. Along these stripes a zigzag crack was developing. In such a case the stripes do not have an exactly periodical character. None of the structures enumerated was observed in the control chisels.
