Summary:The article proposes the creation of a method of calculating coal losses in more geologically complex or difficult stratification conditions, particularly in open pit faulted areas. Topics discussed include necessary considerations for losses associated with the roof and floor of a coal seam such as the surface roughness of the overburden rock-and-coal seam contact and inverse power dependence coal losses have on the seam thickness in the area of disjunctive faulting.
