Summary:A composite explosive emission cathode for generating large-diameter electron beams has been fabricated form LaB6-TiB2 produced by self-sustaining high-temperature synthesis. Electron microscope studies of the emitting surface indicate that the height of micropoints is 2-13 μm, their base diameters are 5-13 μm, and their density is 2.106 cm-2. Cathode emission characteristics measured at the OMEGA-350 accelerator are compared to those of a steel emitter.
