Summary:Relying on the analysis of the authors' data of the recent years, this overview substantiates the basic propositions of multilevel wave model of a deformed solid in physical mesomechanics. A solid under deformation is considered as a multi-level system wherein plastic flow is caused by shear stability loss of the material in stress gradient fields at different structural levels. Surface layers and internal interfaces are considered as autonomous mesoscopic structural levels of deformation. The evolution of this process from the quasihomogeneous plastic flow up to the final stage of its macrolocalization is considered. The prefracture criterion of the deformed material based on a multilevel wave model is discussed
