Summary:Iodine in the presence of sodium, potassium, and calcium nitrates in acetic acid efficently iodinates activeted arenes and carbazoles. The oxygen was shown not to be an indispensible reaction component. A scheme was suggested describing I+ generation in the system via a series of redox processes with participation of NO-3.
