Engineering Physical Metallurgy and Heat-Treatment

Bibliographic Details
Main Author: Lakhtin Yu. M.
Summary:The first edition of this textbook was published in English in 1974. This is a translation of the second Russian edition, which has been thoroughly revised and to which new material has been added on the defects of crystal lattices, the thermodynamics of phase transformations and other subjects. The textbook deals with the crystalline structure of metals and with the effects of solidification, plastic deformation and recrystallization on their structure. Phases formed in alloys are analyzed, as well as equilibrium diagrams of binary and ternary alloys. The book provides a basic understanding of theory and practice in heat treatment of steels. Comprehensive data is given on structural, tool, stainless and heat-resistant steels, alloys with special physical extensively applied alloys based on titanium, copper, aluminium, magnesium, and other metals. The book is intended for students majoring in process and metallurgical engineering or allied subjects in metallurgical or mechanical engineering institutes. It can also be of value for the engineering personnel of metallurgical and machine-building plants.
