Summary:The light brick, porous chamotte, porous diatomite, light brick with burn-out process were used mostly as thermal insulation materials in furnaces of thermal power plants, metallurgical plants, mortar, cement and brick production in Mongolia. Each year 500000 thermal insulation bricks were imported from Russia, China, Japan, Italy, Germany and USA to the Mongolian market. This shows that there is necessity to implement research project with the purpose to develop porous chamotte product based on local refractory clay (kaolinite) which fit technical requirements of the international standards such as ISO-2245-1972 and DIN EN 1094. The main purpose is to produce porous chamotte brick based on local refractory clay of Mongolia and to study their physical and mechanical properties and to optimize the technological processes. The porous chamotte produced has a bulk density of 0,47 g/cm3 and a crushing strength of 1,84 MPa. The thermal conductivity coefficient of the porous chamotte is 0,28 W/mK at 1000°C.
