Summary:The paper presents the history of the establishment and development of engineering education in Russia. Indeed, Russia has contributed significantly to engineering education internationally. Recent advances have led to the formation of a technical university in Russia, which is a centre of science, education and culture that realises mostly fundamental research and professional training, generally for scientific and technical activities in a wide spectrum of directions and specialties. Furthermore, specialist training in the field of high technologies is one education-capacious process that is being explored in cooperative programmes between Russian industry and Russian higher educational institutions. The main directions of this reform is to form a new generation of engineers who would meet the demands of the post-industrial society, educational and scientific-technical potential of higher educational institutions in Russia, who can solve problems concerning the quality of education in the area of high technologies, and who can use Russian and foreign educational experience. Also discussed are the important areas of humanisation, fundamentalisation and professionalism in forming the content of engineering education in high technologies
