Summary:Title screen
Calcium aluminates are promising matrices for creating multifunctional pigments and optically active building coatings. In this work, Mn4+-doped phosphors based on CaAl4O7, were obtained by solid-phase synthesis using various types of natural calcium-containing raw materials: marble, chalk, limestone and dolomite. The phase composition, morphology, and photoluminescent properties of the obtained materials are investigated. All synthesized samples were found to exhibit intense red luminescence with a maximum at λem ≈ 654 nm, characteristic of electron transitions in Mn4+ ions. It was revealed that the luminescence intensity significantly depends on the genesis of the feedstock and the concentration of accompanying impurities. The highest luminescent characteristics were recorded in the sample synthesized on the basis of marble. The results confirm the possibility of obtaining effective and resource-saving calcium-aluminate phosphors from natural raw materials for decorative and functional coatings without loss of their operational properties
