Titanium beryllide TiBe12 is considered a promising material for neutron multiplication in the concept of a helium-cooled blanket module for the planned DEMO fusion reactor. However, to date, no industrial technology has been developed for producing homogeneous, dense, and defect-free products from this material, and existing research is primarily focused on lab-scale powder metallurgy methods. In the Be-Ti system, a significant number of intermetallic compounds with varying Be/Ti atomic ratios can form, each exhibiting different physical properties, which complicates the achievement of a phase-homogeneous TiBe12 structure. The synthesis method and temperature-time regimes can have a crucial impact on the sequence of phase formation and the structural homogeneity of the material. For this reason, studying the interaction between beryllium and titanium during the synthesis of titanium beryllide TiBe12 is a critical aspect of developing industrial technology to produce single-phase billets and products from this material. Current research results do not yet provide a clear understanding of the evolution of beryllium and titanium interaction during their solid-state sintering. This study investigates the interaction of beryllium and titanium powders during the synthesis of TiBe12 from their compacted mixture, aiming to examine the features of intermetallic phase formation at temperatures ranging from 700 to 1300 °C and sintering times in vacuum from 1 to 6 h. It was demonstrated that the synthesis of TiBe12 follows a diffusion mechanism, involving the sequential formation of different phases of titanium beryllide intermetallic compounds. The formation of the target TiBe12 phase, with a high degree of homogeneity, occurs only within a specific temperature-time window. The obtained results provide insights into the phase evolution in the Be-Ti system during solid-state synthesis and can be used in selecting consolidation parameters for powder mixtures to produce single-phase TiBe12 intermetallic compounds with a density close to the theoretical value
