Experimental research findings are reported on impact of liquid combustible components and municipal solid waste on characteristics of wood-based fuel pellets. Rapeseed oil and waste motor oil in amounts of 5 and 10 wt% were used as the liquid combustible additives. The mechanical properties, thermal oxidation, ignition and combustion characteristics, and the analysis of solid and gaseous combustion products of the composite pellets were studied. The use of additives in the pellet fuel composition led to an increase in calorific value. The heat of combustion of pellets with oils was 11–18% higher compared to pellets without additives. The addition of oils reduced the ignition delay time. The greatest reduction in ignition time (up to 56%) was recorded with 30 wt% cardboard and 10 wt% motor oil. Compared to pellets without additives, the combustion time of the mixed pellets decreased by 3–29%. The use of liquid components contributed to the increased resistance of the samples to moisture absorption. It was recorded that an increase in the proportion of oil in the pellet led to a decrease in hygroscopicity from 7% to 19%. It was found that the combined use of and cardboard led to improved hardness, impact and vibration resistance. However, analysis of the flue gas composition showed that oil additives caused an increase in SO2 concentrations by 6–59% and NOx by 9–38%. Tests on a pellet boiler showed that combustion of composite pellets increased fuel burnout efficiency, reduced ignition time, and reduced pellet consumption
