Energy losses of a twisted electron when falling on a mirror

| Summary: | Title screen We analyse the dependence of the radiated energy that occurs when a twisted electron falls on a metal mirror on the magnitude of the orbital angular momentum (OAM) and the width of the wave packet. We have obtained compact expressions describing the loss of energy polarized in the plane of the reaction and outside the plane of the reaction. We compare the approximate formulas obtained with the result of numerical modelling, which takes into account the terms being discarded. Our results suggest that, without considering the quantum recoil, radiation polarized outside the reaction plane is associated with a drop in radiated energy polarized in the reaction plane. The total energy loss is the same as in the case of transient radiation from a point particle. However, taking into account the quantum recoil, the energy loss significantly depends on the OAM and the width of the wave packet. We show that the energy loss increases multiple-fold with the growth of the OAM. Thus, for a twisted electron with an energy close to its rest energy and localized on the scale of the order of the Compton wavelength with an OAM of , it increases by a factor of 93 Текстовый файл AM_Agreement |
