This paper investigates the effect of vacuum metallization on laser cladding coating. Nickel was deposited by magnetron sputtering on TiB2 powder, then the coating of Ni and TiB2 was obtained by laser cladding. TiB2-Ni coatings without and with vacuum metallization were studied by XRD and SEM methods. It was shown that the coating has more uniform morphology when vacuum metallization was used
