Sumari:The article discusses the formation of personal and professional self-determination of first-year students with special educational needs. The specifics of the bases for choosing a professional reference point when studying at a university is presented. The process of formation and functioning of primary bases for training in the choice of profession was examined. The study involved 19 Trans-Baikal State University first-year students with health problems. Everybody had a disability group and persistent of body functions. The aim of the study was to analyze the indicators of professional self-determination of students with special educational needs (SEN). Methods of the factual material collection (systematization and generalization, questionnaires, interviews, grouping of the data obtained, and statistical processing) were used. The obtained results showed the dominance of average indicators for motivation readiness in the choice of a future profession, which indicates insufficient formation and internal willingness to consciously and independently plan and implement prospects for personal development and professional growth. Two-thirds of respondents were interested in the future profession as an opportunity to realize their professional qualities. More than half of students with SEN have insufficient idea how to start their training. There is no interaction among educational institutions (school, college, university) in the continuity of the organization of theoretical and practical training on vocational guidance for students with disabilities, taking into account the modern realities in the labour market. The question of how to equip high school students with the skills of self-determination, socio-pedagogical and working abilities must be addressed
