This paper presents the results of experimental studies in the field of the electric-arc synthesis of a solid solution of TiZrNbHfTaC5 multicomponent carbide using an atmospheric plasma reactor. The implementation of the synthesis of carbide in air is possible due to the formation of a buffer layer of carbon monoxide, which prevents the oxidation of synthesis products. It is shown that when TiO2, ZrO2, Nb2O5, HfO2, and Ta2O5 metal-oxide powders are used as precursors, it is possible to provide such parameters of the synthesis process that ensure the formation of a high-entropy TiZrNbHfTaC5 carbide phase with a face-centered cubic lattice. According to the data of transmission electron microscopy, the synthesis products contain particles with a wide size distribution from tens of micrometers to submicron and nanoscale ones
