Summary:The interaction of low-energy positrons with matter is investigated by monitoring annihilation radiation with nuclear spectroscopic methods. Since the late Sixties positron physics has developed very rapidly and important achievements have been made in various fields. This volume concentrates upon the applications of positron annihilation in solid-state physics. It consists of five chapters written by outstanding experts in the field. Studies of electronic structure in metals and alloys are reviewed, and special emphasis is given to imperfect solids, where trapping of positrons by lattice defects has proved to be a powerful tool in probing both the density and the structure of defects. A tutorial introduction is provided for readers without former knowledge in positron physics.
