Power supply reliability of consumers is primary task in power engineering. Reliability improvement can be achieved by the reliabilization of individual components of electrical grid and, also, by the redundancy. The redundancy is completed by automatic transfer switches. The application of automatic transfer switches is of particular interest in distribution electrical grids with operative generators. The matter is that, at those load buses when generators are connected and operated, the process of automatic transfer is becoming more involved owing to the need of a synchronism checking. Basically, capabilities and qualities of modern automatic transfer switches with synchronism checking are accurately corresponded to specified requirements. However, the operation procedures of the synchronization are still not fully developed. Therefore, authors of this paper analyze the possibility to develop and apply a technique of automatic control for synchronous automatic transfer switch at the substation with distributed generation. The bottom line of the technique is to decompose the general task of control system synthesis for the subtask of programmed trajectories formation of technical object's movement, and the subtask of control actions formation. In a paper, authors give practical example of programmed trajectory formation of controlled generator and the result of a simulation of generator's controlling in automatic transfer switch cycle.
