The paper deals with hendiadys as a linguistic phenomenon considering the issues of its historical background and distinguishing features as part of binomials. Indeed, binomials have frequently been employed in various genres and by various authors throughout the history of English. Thus, the aim of this paper is both to retrace the history of hendiadys as part of binomials from Old English to Present-Day English including the periods of Middle and Early Modern English and to review their significant peculiarities in the English language.
