The paper analyzes the errors in determining the thermal diffusivity of a typical gas - carbon dioxide, caused by radiation transfer of energy in a heated layer of material, under conditions corresponding to the implementation of the laser pulse method when a collimated laser pulse of finite duration is exposed to its surface. The influence of the geometric dimensions of the sample and the process of radiation absorption on the magnitude of this error is established.
