In the present paper, the nature of changes is traced in the surface properties of a modified polymer membrane during radiation polymerization and sulfonation. It was found that during the modification, the membrane gains its weight, which increases the strength characteristics, thereby contributing to long-term wear resistance. The sulfonation is a mandatory process, as a result of which the modified membrane acquires the ionic conductivity properties. It was shown that the availability of an acid group causes a change in the hydrophilicity characteristics of the membrane surface, namely the contact angle. Moreover, it was established that the sulfonation ultimately leads to hydrophilicity and the ability of proton transfer in the proton-exchange membrane.
