The paper presents the results of experiments on simulation of processes of oil pollution of bottom sediments in enclosed natural bodies of water. To determine the possible oil pollution in the oil-bearing territories, geochemical indicators of the contribution of oil fluids into the organic matter of modern sediments have been revealed. Tri- and tetramethyl derivatives of naphthalene and dibenzothiophene can serve as indicators of oil pollution of bottom sediments of natural bodies of water. The presence of fluorenes, dimethylbenzanthracenes, chrysenes, steranes, and hopanes is also indicative of oil pollution.
