Investigations on ultrasonic (US) consolidation of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) powder were carried out. Optimum parameters of the consolidation were determined that ensure fabrication of dense nonporous compacts in the mode of ultrasonic particle welding. The permolecular structure, physical, mechanical and tribotechnical properties of UHMWPE specimens fabricated by the compression sintering (as a reference technique) and US-consolidation were compared. It is shown that the US-consolidation of UHMWPE powder particles with a size of tens microns makes it possible to form a high-density homogeneous fine structure compacts with increased hardness. This provides their wear resistance under dry sliding friction being equal to one of specimens produced by the compression sintering.
