Games have many pedagogical benefits and are widely used in education. Gamesenhance the motivation to learn, add variety to a lesson, enhance students’ confidence in theircompetence and add the elements of relaxation and fun. Well-designed games stimulatemental processes, and encourage meaningful verbal communication. This paper discusses theuse of games as a tool in foreign language teaching, highlights the benefits and drawbacks oftheir application, and offers criteria for game selection.
