An attempt of Russian Universities to integrate into the international educational market and move towardsthe leading positions in the world ranking has resulted in the necessity for the improved and intensifiedlanguage teaching of both students and university teaching staff. The paper explores the possibility ofintegrating massive open online courses (MOOCs) into the syllabus of the ESP Course, for a group ofstudents within the process of the ESP teaching at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU). The opportunitiesand challenges of this experiment have been analyzed and the conclusions whether MOOCs are effectiveautonomous resources have been formulated.
