The paper addresses the problem of calculation of the effective properties of matrix composites. The problem refers to the discussion of the effective thermal expansion coefficient for a spherical inhomogeneity with an interface layer. The interface layer was modeled using differential method of replacing an inhomogeneous inclusion by a homogeneous equivalent. We have studied the effect of this layer and its thickness on the properties of a composite. The effective properties were calculated using Maxwell's homogenization scheme in terms of thermal expansion contribution tensor of inhomogeneity.
