The formation of the organic matter in coal and kerogens resembles burial in sedimentary layers. Similarity is also seen in terms of Eh and pH, with which the accumulation of microelements in the organic matter is associated. Change in the content of microelements may provide information regarding the organic synthesis of the plant residues and also permit identification of the geochemical conditions.
